From Satellite Data to Solar Power: Forecasting PV Performance

Learn with us how satellite and climate data can support the nowcasting and forecasting of solar-panel efficiency.

About the event

Using the Benban Solar Park in Egypt as a practical example, we will present an approach that can be applied across Egypt and the Mediterranean region.

The workshop is open to everyone, so save the date and feel free to share it with anyone who may be interested!

Programme

The training will

Present the overall methodology and workflow logic
Demonstrate practical use cases
Clarify how monitoring, forecasting, and operational decisions are connected

Topics overview

C3S, CAMS, and the Union for the Mediterranean
Interpretation of atmospheric signals (AOD, irradiance components, wind patterns);
Integration of satellite, ground-based, and forecast data;
Forecast of correction logic (including ML-based residual correction)
Translation of irradiance forecasts into expected AC power
Quantification of atmospheric versus soiling losses
Adoption of data-driven cleaning and operational decisions

There will be no hands-on exercises during this workshop. Instead, participants will gain the foundational understanding necessary to effectively engage in future practical training sessions.
Participants will be provided with curated resources and short reading materials to begin understanding the project and methodology.
